Some students leave a mark—literally and emotionally. Nicole is one of those unforgettable ones.

Nicole came to me over seven years ago, travelling from Jersey with curiosity and determination. Her goal was to dive into 3D baby casting, advanced family hand casts, and 2D impressions. But true to Nicole’s adventurous spirit, she threw in something unexpected:
“Do you think we could try horses?” she asked, referring to creating 2D equine impressions. Not your usual request—but one I was more than happy to take on.

The Horse Impressions Challenge: A Keepsake Journey

Thanks to my lovely friend Sandra Palmer-Snellin at Farmer Palmer’s here in Dorset, we had the chance to practice on several horses. It was a unique experience, one that showcased just how versatile keepsake work can be when students bring fresh ideas and energy into the studio.

As I often remind Nicole, since she’s from Jersey, maybe one day she’ll add a cow to her portfolio. The challenge has been set!

What Does 3D & 2D Casting Training Involve?

Training in 3D casting is hands-on and detail-oriented. The process starts with mixing the materials, followed by carefully capturing every delicate crease and dimple in a baby’s hand or foot. It’s a meticulous process that requires both precision and practice—but when the perfect cast comes to life, it’s truly magical.

Meanwhile, 2D impressions might seem simpler but are an art in their own right. You need to perfect the postion before you press to capture the finest of details, whether it’s a newborn’s tiny foot, a dog’s paw, or even a horse’s muzzle. It’s a beautiful snapshot in time.

This training isn’t just about technique—it’s about building confidence, fostering creativity, and learning how to approach each session with professionalism and care.

Where Is Nicole Now after her 3d and 2d casting training?

Nicole has transformed her training into a flourishing career as an incredible keepsake artist. She’s now creating heartfelt pieces for both families and pet owners, capturing meaningful moments and memories for her clients.

One of her standout achievements has been a breast cancer awareness display at Marks & Spencer on King Street in Jersey. Partnering with ABC Jersey – Breast Cancer Support, she helped bring the stories of brave women who shared their scars and experiences to life. Their powerful message: Touch, Look, Check.

Nicole’s talent also extends to pet bereavement services, where she crafts beautiful memorials to help families hold onto the precious memories of their beloved pets.

Still Staying in Touch

Nicole isn’t just a student; she’s a dear friend. We still keep in touch, swapping ideas, stories, and the occasional laugh about that first week of training. Her passion and determination inspire me every day, and I’m proud to see how far she’s come.
