Losing a child is every parent’s worst fear. I will never forget the day I saw a post on Facebook that stopped me in my tracks. The news was devastating. A friend’s son, Will Paddy, had tragically passed away. No parent should ever face this unimaginable loss. Will went to school with my eldest daughter, which made the loss even more personal.

I reached out to Les to convey my deepest sympathy, and she asked me to create something truly special for her. As a professional in 3D casting, I created three keepsakes: one single hand and two with Les holding Will’s hand. Creating precious memories with 3D casting, these keepsakes support the legacy of Willdoes charity and help preserve cherished moments. I suggested using bronze for the castings due to the fragile nature of plaster. Unlike plaster, which feels cold to the touch, bronze offers a comforting warmth. Les now keeps the bronze castings in her windows at home in Dorset, often holding them and finding solace in their warmth.

The Specialised Nature of Memorial 3D Casting Training

Memorial 3D casting involves more than just technique. It requires an understanding of the emotional sensitivity, unique circumstances, and different environments involved. Each situation is distinct, and I work closely with families to ensure their needs are met with care and precision.

My own experiences over the years have deeply informed this aspect of my training. When someone wishes to create memorial castings, I draw on those experiences to guide them through a process that balances both technical skill and emotional sensitivity. The goal is to create something truly meaningful that honours the memory of their loved one, while ensuring the family feels supported every step of the way.

Since Will’s passing, Les has founded the #Willdoes charity in his memory. The charity supports young people struggling with mental health, anxiety, and social isolation in Dorset. Will was an active, compassionate young man who loved sports and animals. His energy lives on through the charity, which helps young people in Dorset build resilience and connect with their communities.

3D Casting Training with Student from India

Over two days, Trisha focused on mastering the art of 3D baby casting, covering the first two levels of training. Babies of all ages visited the studio, giving her hands-on practice with real clients—essential for learning lifecasting techniques. This experience helped build confidence while teaching the foundational skills needed to create beautiful baby hand and foot castings.

Practical training is at the heart of this 3D casting course, ensuring students gain the knowledge to start their own keepsake business. By the end of the workshop, Trisha had the skills to produce high-quality, professional keepsakes that families will treasure forever.

2D Impression One Day Course

On the third day, Trisha delved into the art of 2D impressions, using clay to create raised plaster tiles. By pressing a baby’s hand or foot into soft clay, she captured intricate details, turning them into a lasting keepsake. While this technique may seem simple at first glance, mastering it requires precision to ensure every finger and toe is perfectly formed.

As the day progressed, it became clear how these mini memories are a fantastic addition for anyone looking to expand their keepsake business. Family Handcasting Course

For the final part of training, Trisha learned advanced 3D family handcastings, including techniques for creating linked arms and family tree castings. Family handcastings can be free-standing or wall-hung, while family tree castings are framed, offering versatile display options. Despite jet lag, cold, and language barriers, Trisha made the most of every minute of her training.

Since returning to India, Trisha has launched her own keepsake business, specialising in family handcastings and family tree castings. She even shared her positive experience in a glowing review on my Facebook page.
