A Family’s Journey to the Studio

Libby’s family travelled three and a half hours to my studio.
She was the same age as my eldest daughter, terminally ill.
Exhausted, yet they wanted a 3D keepsake that could hold memories forever.

Capturing Libby’s Hand for Her Mother

Her mother softly said, “I want Glenda to cast your hand… so I can hold it later.”
Libby had to hold her hand in a very specific position.
This would allow her mother to grasp the finished 3D keepsake once it was complete.
Shivers ran down my spine. This wasn’t about cost — it was about capturing love frozen in time.

Every detail of her hand became part of a story frozen in time.
This moment reminded me how fragile life is and how precious memory can be.

A Keepsake Made of the Most Precious Material

Hallmarked Sterling Silver 3D Casting

For this memorial piece, I created the keepsake in hallmarked sterling silver.
During casting, Libby’s Pandora ring slipped into the alginate and became part of the plaster.
It could not be removed without risking the entire piece, so it stayed embedded forever.

The ring, the hand, the connection — inseparable, timeless, unforgettable.
Every curve, every line, captured love, presence, and emotion that words cannot describe.

When the Keepsake is Collected Years Later

Sadly, Libby passed away a couple of weeks later.
She never saw the final casting, nor recovered her ring.

The family didn’t collect the piece for two years — yes, I know!
Her sister visited and apologised, saying their mum was still struggling.
I completely understood. No apology was ever needed.

Yet this 3D keepsake now holds her presence, warmth, and the touch of her hand.
Keepsakes are never “just objects.” They carry love, memory, and solace.
They also carry responsibility — only experienced, trained hands should create them.

3D Casting Training with Student from India

Over two days, Trisha focused on mastering the art of 3D baby casting, covering the first two levels of training. Babies of all ages visited the studio, giving her hands-on practice with real clients—essential for learning lifecasting techniques. This experience helped build confidence while teaching the foundational skills needed to create beautiful baby hand and foot castings.

Practical training is at the heart of this 3D casting course, ensuring students gain the knowledge to start their own keepsake business. By the end of the workshop, Trisha had the skills to produce high-quality, professional keepsakes that families will treasure forever.

2D Impression One Day Course

On the third day, Trisha delved into the art of 2D impressions, using clay to create raised plaster tiles. By pressing a baby’s hand or foot into soft clay, she captured intricate details, turning them into a lasting keepsake. While this technique may seem simple at first glance, mastering it requires precision to ensure every finger and toe is perfectly formed.

As the day progressed, it became clear how these mini memories are a fantastic addition for anyone looking to expand their keepsake business. Family Handcasting Course

For the final part of training, Trisha learned advanced 3D family handcastings, including techniques for creating linked arms and family tree castings. Family handcastings can be free-standing or wall-hung, while family tree castings are framed, offering versatile display options. Despite jet lag, cold, and language barriers, Trisha made the most of every minute of her training.

Since returning to India, Trisha has launched her own keepsake business, specialising in family handcastings and family tree castings. She even shared her positive experience in a glowing review on my Facebook page.
