A specialist training that barely exists anywhere else

Dedicated pet casting training — and particularly pet memorial casting training — is extremely hard to find in the UK. Most casting courses focus on babies and families. Most memorial courses focus on humans. If you work with animals and want to offer professional, compassionate pet casting services, finding proper training has until now meant either adapting human techniques yourself or going without.

This training fills that gap. Over 22 years I have developed specialist techniques, materials and approaches specifically for pet casting — from lively puppies to large breeds, from standard keepsakes to sensitive memorial work. Furthermore, because every professional comes with different experience and different goals, the programme is completely flexible. One day, two days or three — we build the right training around you.

If you already have some casting experience, I ask you to send a few photos of your recent work beforehand. That way, the day starts from exactly where you are — no time wasted, every minute focused on what you actually need.

What makes this training different

Every training day uses real animals. Pickle, my cockapoo, is a regular model — and additional dogs are brought in so you work with different breeds, sizes and temperaments throughout the day. Consequently, you leave with genuine confidence in handling real animals, not just practice on static models.

I also teach you to work with the right materials for each situation — because pet casting requires different techniques and materials to human casting, and memorial pet casting requires a different approach again. Getting that right is what separates a confident professional from someone who struggles when a grieving owner is waiting.

The training options

Day 1 — Pet Casting Foundations (£650)

The ideal starting point if you are new to pet casting. You will work with real dogs including Pickle, learning safe handling and positioning, the correct materials and techniques for different breeds and temperaments, and how to create clean, detailed 3D paw casts. By the end of Day 1 you will have the foundations to start working with real clients confidently.

Day 2 — Advanced Pet Casting, Handclasp & Airbrushing (£650)

Day 2 builds significantly on the foundations. You will work with more challenging animals, learn the handclasp composition — a multi-paw structure requiring different technique and thinking to a single cast — and finish with professional airbrushing. Airbrushing is what takes pet castings from good to premium, and it is increasingly what clients expect when they see work on social media.

Day 3 — Pet Memorial Specialisation (£750)

Day 3 focuses entirely on the specialist skills required for professional memorial pet casting. You will learn the specific materials, techniques and emotional approach needed to support grieving families — working sensitively, confidently and with the right workflow for a memorial situation. All techniques are practised using live animals, so you build real confidence before you ever need to use these skills in a real memorial context.

Practical details

Hours: 9:30am – 3:30pm each day • Location: Private studio, Lytchett Matravers, Dorset — approximately 15 minutes from Poole, 30 minutes from Bournemouth. Free parking.
