From Failed O Levels to an Award-Winning 3D Casting Training UK Business Expert

As a leading 3D casting training UK expert, I can honestly say it isn’t just about moulding hands or feet — it’s about shaping a life that works for you. If you’re a creative soul looking for a more flexible path, especially one that fits around your family, then you’re not alone — I’ve been there.

Looking back, I never imagined I’d end up running my own business. School didn’t exactly set me up for success. I failed both Maths and English O Levels and grew up surrounded by the message that girls like me became secretaries. End of. But art? Art was my escape. I even took my Art O Level a year early — but still, it didn’t feel like a real option.

Then one day, after being made redundant, I got chatting to a graduate who asked, “Why didn’t you go to university?” I laughed and replied, “I’m not clever enough.” But that question stuck with me. Maybe I was. Maybe I just needed a different path.

So I applied as a mature student to Sheffield Hallam University to study Communications. Not only did I graduate with a 2:1, but I also spent six incredible months studying in The Hague. It changed everything. I found my confidence — and my voice.

A Life Lived Fully — and Flexibly

Travel has always played a big part in my life. Even before the girls came along, my husband and I loved packing up and heading somewhere new. And once we became parents, we didn’t stop. We’ve been lucky enough to take them to places like Vietnam, Cuba, Gambia, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. They’ve seen sunshine and squalor, beauty and hardship — and it’s kept us all grounded. It’s part of who we are as a family: curious, open, and always up for an adventure.

After my degree, I worked as a Marketing Manager in London, then moved to Hertfordshire where I took on a Communications and Events Manager role in telecoms. Another redundancy later, and I found myself retraining to become a primary school teacher. I loved it, but when I became pregnant with my first daughter — and with my husband working away during the week — I needed something more flexible. Something that allowed me to be there for school plays, sick days and storytime.

That’s when Precious Memories was born — in 2004.

What began as a tiny creative idea has grown into something much bigger. Today, Precious Memories is an award-winning keepsake business that not only creates timeless castings for families but also trains others to do the same. I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming international students from countries like Norway, Cyprus, India, Germany, Ireland, Tanzania, and more — all eager to learn the art of 3D casting and create meaningful, home-based businesses of their own.

I offer several in-person courses in Dorset — including 2D impressions, baby castings, belly bump sculptures, and specialised memorial castings. There’s something profoundly powerful about capturing these once-in-a-lifetime moments in a way that lasts forever.

Creative Business Mentoring for Women Entrepreneurs

Now that my daughters are older and more independent (cue the empty nest vibes!), I’m embracing the next chapter — and it includes mentoring other women who are ready to build something for themselves. I know the juggle. I understand the guilt. And I see so many women holding back because they don’t feel “qualified” or “good enough.”

But here’s the thing: you don’t need permission to create a life that works for you.

Life Beyond Work — and Why It Matters

Yes, I love what I do. But I’m also a dog mum to a cheeky cockapoo called Pickle, who gets me out walking and clears my head. I train twice a week at a local cardio/strength gym (shoutout to Tone Fitness!) because looking after yourself matters — especially when you’re always looking after everyone else.

And then there’s our home. Originally from Nottingham, we’ve lived all over the UK but now call Dorset home. We knocked down walls, extended, and even discovered a well in the kitchen — which is now a statement piece (because why not?). There’s even a graffiti wall featuring Pickle. I’ve always loved interiors and believe your home should feel like you.
