In February 2020, Salma travelled more than 4,500 miles from Tanzania to the UK to train with me. She’d already tried learning online. She didn’t travel because she couldn’t find information — she travelled because she wanted to learn by actually doing it.

My training is completely private and 1:1. You’re not sharing the trainer’s attention with a room full of other students. You can ask as many questions as you need, practise the techniques yourself, slow down when something needs more explanation, and revisit something if you’re not confident.

What If You’ve Never Done Casting Before?
You don’t need to arrive already knowing how to cast.
Most of my students start with little or no previous experience — that’s exactly what the training is for. We work through the process step by step, and because the training is 1:1, I can adapt the pace and focus to you.
You don’t have to be an artist, sculptor or experienced caster. You simply need to be willing to learn.
What Happens When You Travel to the UK for Training?
Your training takes place at my private studio in Lytchett Matravers, Dorset. Depending on your course, you’ll spend your training time practising the techniques, working with models, learning the materials and finishing processes, and asking questions as you go.
Training days currently run from 9:30am to 3:30pm, and courses range from one to three days depending on what you’re learning. Because you’re travelling from overseas, you can also build a few extra days around your training and explore Dorset or the wider UK while you’re here — many students bring their family and turn the trip into a proper break. Dorset is on the south coast of England, within easy reach of London by road or rail, although journey times vary considerably depending on traffic and your starting point.

Salma’s 4,500-Mile Journey
As a mum with a young son, Salma wanted to build something creative that could fit around family life. Online learning seemed like the sensible place to start — cheaper, no travel, no time away from home.
But she quickly ran into the same wall most people do: hand casting isn’t something you can learn fully from a screen. You can watch someone demonstrate the process online, but it’s very different from having the materials in your own hands, working with a real model and having an experienced trainer beside you when something doesn’t go according to plan.
So Salma made a decision most people wouldn’t consider: if online learning wasn’t going to get her there, she’d travel however far it took to learn it properly.
