Why travelling for hands-on training gave Salma the confidence to build her keepsake business
Salma’s 3D Casting Journey — Travelling from Tanzania to Dorset
In February 2020, Salma travelled from Tanzania to Dorset to complete her 3D casting training with me.
As a mum with a young son, she wanted to build something creative that could fit around family life. She wanted more than just a new skill, she wanted real confidence to create keepsakes professionally.
Before travelling, Salma had explored online learning. But she quickly realised that 3D casting is something you need to experience properly, in person.
Working with babies and families is unpredictable. Materials have timings. A baby’s hand may move. A parent may need reassurance. A piece may need adjusting before it becomes the finished keepsake. These are the moments where having someone beside you makes all the difference.

That’s exactly why hands-on training matters. Watching a video can show you a technique, but it can’t guide your hands, answer your questions in the moment, or give you confidence when you’re working with your first real clients.
What Makes Private 3D Casting Training Different
Over more than 20+ years at Precious Memories, I’ve trained students from across the world, including Norway, India, Tanzania, Germany, Cyprus, Ireland, and the USA.
My training is built around real studio experience, not simply watching a demonstration. Students learn 3D baby hand and foot casting, working safely with live models, managing timing and materials, advanced family hand castings, 2D outprint tiles, professional finishing and framing, and how to build real confidence with real clients.
There are things you only learn through doing. I can see when a student needs help before a mistake happens, and explain why something’s gone wrong and how to correct it. The support doesn’t end when training finishes, either. Students keep access to me as they start building their own businesses.
From International Training to Building a Real Business
After returning home to Tanzania, Salma used what she’d learned to start creating keepsakes for families.
